Charbait is a form of folk theatre—resembling a musical duel—prevalent in the city of Tonk,

Rajasthan. In this style, songs are sung with great emotional intensity while kneeling,

accompanied by the playing of the traditional Dhap instrument, much like Qawwali

performances. This tradition was initiated by Abdul Karim Khan and Khalifa Karikh Khan

Nihang during the reign of Nawab Faizullah Khan of Tonk. Originally, Charbait is an art form

associated with the Pathans. The Dhapli is the primary musical instrument used in Charbait.

फैजुल्ला खाँ के समय अब्दुल करीम खाँ एवं खलीफा करीख खाँ निहंग ने प्रारम्भ की। मूलतः चारबैत पठानों की

विद्या है। चारबैत में ढपली ही मुख्य वाद्ययंत्र होता है।
