Spire test is for adjustment of horizontal axis. Horizontal axis should be perpendicular to the vertical axis.

Steps:

(i)     Setup the instrument on firm flat ground.

(ii)    Sight a well-defined point on high altitude e.g. top of the spire, tip of the chimney etc.

(iii)   Clamp both of the horizontal plates.

(iv)   Depress the objective end of the telescope and sight a point on the ground near the instrument.

(v)    Plunge the telescope and repeat the procedure.

स्पायर टेस्ट (Spire test) क्षैतिज अक्ष (horizontal axis) को समायोजित करने के लिए किया जाता है। क्षैतिज अक्ष, ऊर्ध्वाधर

अक्ष (vertical axis) के लंबवत (perpendicular) होना चाहिए। 

चरण:

(i)   उपकरण को एक मजबूत और समतल जमीन पर स्थापित करें। 

(ii)  अधिक ऊंचाई पर स्थित किसी स्पष्ट बिंदु को देखें, जैसे कि किसी मीनार (spire) का शीर्ष या चिमनी का ऊपरी सिरा

आदि। 

(iii) दोनों क्षैतिज प्लेटों को क्लैंप (कस) दें। 

(iv)  दूरबीन (telescope) के ऑब्जेक्टिव सिरे को नीचे की ओर झुकाएं और उपकरण के पास जमीन पर स्थित किसी बिंदु को

देखें।

(v) दूरबीन को पलटें (plunge करें) और इसी प्रक्रिया को दोहराएं।
