Raja Bharmal was the first Rajput ruler to accept Mughal suzerainty; he submitted to Akbar at Sambhar in 1562 CE.

For his valiant role in suppressing the Mirza rebellion in Gujarat (at Sarnal), Akbar honored Bhagwant Das by bestowing upon him a

nagada (kettledrum) and a parcham (standard/flag).
