This soil is formed from ancient crystalline and metamorphic rocks. Due to its red color and fine-textured particles, it is

and calcium salts; it appears red due to a high concentration of iron oxide particles. It is found in parts of the Dungarpur,

Banswara, Udaipur, Salumbar, and Chittorgarh districts in southern Rajasthan.

लाल दुमट मिट्टी

इस मृदा का निर्माण प्राचीन क्रिस्टलीय तथा कायान्तरित चट्टानों से हुआ है। लाल रंग युक्त इस मिट्टी के कण बारीक होने के कारण ही इसे लाल दुमट मिट्टी / लैटेराइट मिट्टी कहा जाता है। इस मिट्टी में फॉस्फोरस, नाइट्रोजन, ह्यूमस और कैल्सियम लवणों की कमी पायी जाती है तथा लौह ऑक्साइड के कणों की अधिकता के कारण लाल रंग की दिखाई देती है। यह मिट्टी दक्षिणी राजस्थान के डूंगरपुर, बाँसवाड़ा, उदयपुर, सलूम्बर और चित्तौड़गढ़ जिलों के कुछ भागों में पायी जाती है।
