Solution

Water content is defined as the ratio of the weight of water to the weight of dry soil solids,

expressed as a percentage.

 

Where:

(Ww) = Weight of water

(Ws) = Weight of dry soil solids

Water content can exceed 100% when the weight of  water is greater than the weight of dry soil solids. This is commonly observed in highly organic soils and peat.
