Question

A kinematic pair cannot be classified on the basis of ________ .

A.

Nature of contact between the links

B.

Nature of constraints between the link

C.

Number of connected links

D.

Type of relative motion between the links

Answer ( Option C)

Number of connected links

Solution

●Kinematic pair cannot be classified on the basis of number of connected links.

●According to nature of mechanism constraint kinematic pairs are classified (permanent closed pair/closed pair/self-closed pair and unclosed pair/ open pair/ force-closed pair).

●Kinematic pairs can also be classified according to nature of relative motion. For example, sliding pairs, turning pair, rolling pair etc.

Hence, the correct option is (C).

&Key Points:-

1. Permanent closed pair :  When the elements of a pair are held together mechanically, it is known as closed pair.

Example : Screw pair

2.Unclosed pair : When two links of pair are in contact either due to force of gravity or some spring action, they constitute an unclosed pair.
