If a reheater is added to a Rankine Cycle, then usually
The network and efficiency decreases
The network increases and efficiency remains same
The network and efficiency increases
The network remains same and efficiency increases
The network and efficiency increases
●If a reheater is added to Rankine cycle, then usually the net-work and efficiency increases. The advantages of using a reheat cycle are higher thermal efficiency, reduced feed water pump power, smaller condenser, smaller boiler, long life of the turbine and less handling of the fuel and firing requirement.
●Reheating increases dryness fraction at later stages of turbine expansion which results in increase in net-work and efficiency.
●The purpose of a reheating cycle is to remove the moisture carried by the steam at the final stages of the expansion process. In this variation, two turbines work in series. The first accepts vapour from the boiler at high pressure.
Hence, the correct option is (C).
&Key Points:-
Efficiency of cycle is directly proportional to mean temperature of heat addition.
Reheater is a part of the boiler which to reheat steam output from the first level of the steam turbine. Reheated steam will again absorb the heat energy from the boiler to be used in the next level steam turbine. Reheater is one way to improve the efficiency of the Rankine Cycle.
By reheating steam between high-pressure and low-pressure turbine it is possible to increase the electrical efficiency of the power plant cycle beyond 40%.
