generally armoured to
Prevent damage of insulation due to mechanical pressure of armour
Reduce electrical field inside the insulation
Reduce iron losses to the cable
Reduce eddy current losses to the
cable

Single - core cable are not usually
armoured in to avoid to excessive sheath losses and reduce iron loss to the
cable. The principal advantage of single core cable are simple construction and
availability of larger copper section.
