According to the IS code 456 : 2000 clause 23.3. A simply supported or continuous beam
shall be so proportioned that clear distance between the lateral restraints does not
exceed
60 b or 250 b2/d whichever is less
Where, d= effective depth of the beam
b= breath of the compression face midway between the lateral restraints.
For cantilever beam; Clear distance between the free end of cantilever and lateral restrain
shall not exceed.
