We know 
Critical Velocity is expressed as 
V0 = 0.55 m D0.64 
Where, m = Critical Velocity ratio (CVR) and it is equal to the ratio of actual velocity (Va) to critical velocity (Vc) in channel.
Now If, 
CVR > 1; Va > Vc - Scouring will occur 
CVR < 1; Va < Vc - Silting will occur 
CVR = 1; Va = Vc - There will be no silting and scouring 
or V0 = C × Dn
Where, D is full supply depth in m and C is constant. 
Note:
Constant C depends on the character of the silt. Coarser the material greater the value of the constant.
