PIGMENTS
• These are those substance which give color to the paint other than base color
• The pigments are available in the form of fine powders in various colors & qualities.
Example : Fe2o3, amber, carbon black, zinc oxide, iron oxide.
DRIERS
• These are those substances which accelerate the process of drying.
• Also known as paint plasticizer.
• Maximum limit 8% in 1 liter oil.
Examples : Cobalt, lead acetate, zinc sulphate etc.
EXTENDER
• These are those substance which increase the volume of the paint.
Examples : Aluminum Silicate, powdered silica, calcium sulphate etc.
THINNER
• A thinner is a volatile solvent that is used to dilute or extend oil-based paints or cleanup after use.
Examples : Mineral spirits, mineral and true turpentine, acetone, naptha, toluene, methyl ethyl ketone (MEK), dimethylformamide (DMF), glycol ethers and xylene.
