Non uniform ramming of moulding sand
may lead to the following casting defect :
Scabs
Swells
Blow holes
Bends
Swells
Non uniform ramming of moulding sand
may lead to the swells (casting defect).
Swells :It is a casting defect which
results in general enlargement of a casting. This defect is found on the
vertical surfaces of a casting, if the moulding sand is deformed by the
hydrostatic pressure caused by the high moisture content in the sand.
Cause :
1. Insufficient or soft ramming
2. Low strength moulid and core
3. Moulid not being supported
Hence, the correct option is (B).
&Key Points:-
Using a strong, property rammed mould
prevents swells.
