Solution

In order to increase the radius of gyration, we need to increase the moment of inertia of the built up section and this can be done by placing the elements away from the principal axis.
Lacing shall be placed at 40° to 70° to the axis of built up members and batten shall be placed in the transverse direction. So statement (II) is incorrect.
