Underpinning:
Structures provided underneath an existing foundation to maintain its stability is termed underpinning. Underpinning is used to repair, strengthen or renew the foundation of an existing building. During underpinning, the existing structure is required to be temporarily supported by means of raking shores It is the temporary support provided to the structure which has become unsafe due to excessive differential settlement or due to the removal of the adjacent building, etc 
Scaffolding: 
• It is a safe working platform provided for workers working at an elevation greater than 1.5 meters, 
• It also has limited space for the storage of building materials 
Shoring: 
Shoring is the temporary support that is provided to improve the lateral strength of walls during repairs. 
Types of shoring: 
1. Raking Shores: In this method, inclined members, called rakers are used to give lateral support to the wall. 
2. Flying Shores: Flying shores are a support system that provides horizontal support to two parallel party walls when the removal or collapse of the intermediate building takes place. 
3. Dead Shores: The dead shore is a temporary structure erected to increase the size of the opening in an existing wall.
