Question
The observed bearings of a traverse are given below:
         Line       FB       BB
A.     AB     40°27'     220°27'
B.     BC    100°15'    281°15'
C.     CD    210°17'    30°27'
D.     DA    322°45'    142°45'
The station(s) most likely to be affected by local attraction is/are
A.
Only C
B.
Only A
C.
C and D
D.
B and C
Answer ( Option A)

Only C

Solution

For correct condition the difference of back bearing and fore bearing should be ± 180°
For AB, BB - FB = 220°27'- 40°27'= 180
For BC, BB – FB = 281°15' – 100°15' ≠ 180°
For CD, FB - BB = 210°17' – 30°27' ≠ 180°
For DA, BB - FB = 142°45'- 322°45' = -180°
Thus the line BC & CD are affected by local attraction and the common station C is the most affected by local attraction.
