Question

The shunt capacitance of a transmission line is neglected only resistance and series inductance are considered. The voltage regulation of the transmission line is zero. The power factor of the load connected at receiving end of the line must be.

A.

Unity

B.

Between 0 and 1 (leading)

C.

Zero

D.

Between 0 and 1 (lagging)

Answer ( Option B)

Between 0 and 1 (leading)

Solution

Given that the value of shunt capacitance of a transmission line is neglected, so it must be a short transmission line, which voltage regulation is given by

+ve sign lagging pf and -ve sign for leading power factor of load respectively.

V.R. will be at leading power factor. In this cause V.R.

Hence voltage regulation becomes zero at leading p.f. where as value of power factor lies between 0 and 1.

Hence, the correct option is (B).
