Flemish Bond:
Flemish bonds are of two types -
(i) Double flemish bond
(ii) Single flemish bond.
• In this type of bond, each course is comprised of alternate headers and stretchers.
• Every alternate course starts with a Header at the corner i.e. quoin header.
• Quoin closers are placed next to the quoin header in alternate courses to develop the face lap.
• Every header is centrally supported over the stretcher below it.
• Flemish bond found more economical than English bond as no. of bricks bat are used which reduce the wastage of material.
• However mortar requirement in this bond more than previous due to more number of joint.
• For wall having thickness more than 1.5 brick thick, English bond found more stronger than Flemish bond.
• Skill labor require for Flemish bond.
• For odd multiple of half brick thick wall bats and bats used but don't for even multiples of half brick thick wall.
