Question

The leakage current in the transmission lines is referred to as the

A.

Conductance

B.

Polarisation

C.

Resistance

D.

Radiation

Answer ( Option A)

Conductance

Solution

The performance of a transmission line governed by four parameters namely resistor, inductor, conductance and shunt capacitor. The line resistance causes voltage drop (IR) and power loss (I2 R). Inductor (L) is due to the current carrying conductor surrounded by the magnetic lines of force and the shunt conductance mainly due to flow of leakage current over the surface of insulator specially during bad weather.

Hence, the correct option is (A).
