Ferranti effect occurs in a medium and long transmission line under no load or light load condition. If the loading of line is less than surge impedance loading then ferranti effect occurs due to VR>VS. In this case voltage regulation is negative. Ferranti effect can be reduced by using shunt reactor at the load end.
