Question

Welding process using a pool of molten metal is

A.

Carbon arc welding

B.

Submerged arc welding

C.

TIG welding

D.

MIG welding

Answer ( Option B)

Submerged arc welding

Solution

Submerged arc welding process uses pool of molten metal. In Submerged arc weldingprocess, a consumable bare electrode is used in combination with a flux feeder tube. The arc, end of the bare electrode and molten pool remain completely submerged under blanket of granular flux. During welding, granular flux is melted using heat generated by arc and forms cover of molten flux layer which is used to prevent from the atmospheric gases to the arc zone and the weld pool.

Hence, the correct option is (B).
