1. Hydration of cement begins as soon as water comes in contact with the cement.

2. Hydration of Ordinary Portland Cement is an exothermic reaction.
A.
Statement 1 is correct but Statement 2 is incorrect
B.
Both statements are correct
C.
Statement 1 is incorrect but Statement 2 is correct
D.
Both statement are incorrect
Answer ( Option B)

Both statements are correct

Solution

• Statement 1 – Correct: Hydration starts immediately when water comes in contact with cement particles. The cement

compounds begin reacting with water and form hydration products.

• Statement 2 – Correct: Hydration of OPC is an exothermic reaction, which means heat is released during the chemical

reaction between cement and water. This heat is called heat of hydration.

  Therefore, both statements are correct.
